Comments: | My ol. Dad, was on board an lst during WW2 ,as he said,a large slow target. He was in the South Pacific, against the japs. Not all Dads stories were about battles.most were about the friends he made, the places he went, and tales of the mighty pacific....So,being the son of a son of a sailor, chose to go to sea, and,I'm gled I did. Fair winds, and, following, seas. |

Comments: | My dad was in the Philippines in world war II and he was talking about the shellbacks. He passed away and I'm trying to find out how I could get a shellback certificate for him so we could also honor that part of our history, Do you have any information about this. Thank You. He was Army/Air Force. |

Comments: | In 1946 at the age of 9 I was transported by US Navy LST (number unknown) from Tsingtao (now Qingdao)to Shanghai. I would like to know which LST it was. For the record this was a "mercy trip" conducted by US Government to remove Europians from harms way, Communist invasion was iminent. |

Comments: | Thank you so much for this website my name is Peter Mangin and Felix Mangin who served on LST 794 was my grandfather. He past away when I was very young and I never really knew about his service in WWII. My father Robert Mangin served in the U.S Army and I just recently recieved my discharge from the Marine Corps. My Father passed away when I got home from Iraq so I never got to ask him the questions that I wish I would have cared about when I was younger. I can't tell you how thankful I am to have this information about my grandfather and now I can put a story behind the purple heart that is displayed next to both my father and grandfathers military funeral honours flags in my home. Thank you again! |
